Recent studies have indicated that consuming 8 ounces of blueberries every day could do wonders for your heart. As part of lowering chances of heart disease, eating blueberries daily will lower blood pressure and fight off artery stiffness which often lead to strokes and heart attacks.

Nearly 50 postmenopausal women were involved in a study where half were given blueberry powder, and the other half were given a placebo. The women were all either strong candidates for high blood pressure or already had early stages of it. Two months later, those who had ingested the powder had blood pressure much lower than they previously had, while the placebo group tested the same as before.

Myocardial infarction, also known as heart attack, and stroke are the top two causes of death in developed countries. After menopause, women are much more prone to heart disease. It would be quite a breakthrough to learn that eating blueberries daily could stave off something as deadly as heart disease.

Recently, blueberries have been touted as the superfruit because of its ever-expanding list of health and nutritional benefits.
