Blueberries Are Popping up on Menus across the Country!

As the popularity and demand of blueberries is rising due to the endless health benefits and obvious delicious flavor, they are showing up more and more on menus across the US as the culinary world continues to find creative ways to add them to recipes. Their use among restaurant chains around the country has almost doubled in the last eight years, and fresh blueberries are seen on a growing number of menus. In home kitchens around the country, people are finding new and innovative ways to include blueberries into their recipes.

Customers are buying blueberries more now than they ever have. Surveys have indicated that health benefits have only recently surpassed the naturally good flavor of blueberries as the primary reason people are buying and consuming the “super fruit”. Blueberries can commonly be seen as the main ingredient in smoothies, salads toppings, and even sauces over meats. Of course, blueberries can also be found on most desert menus.

Consumers are increasingly associating blueberries with good health. If a menu item includes blueberries, people assume the dish is better for them. As a result, more people are searching for them in restaurant menus. Consequently, the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council has initiated research into the health benefits in addition to boosting the marketing of those benefits. To help with these efforts, the Council has hired Biggest Loser host, Allison Sweeney. She is encouraging small changes in dietary habits to produce healthier results, and eating more blueberries is one way to attain better health effects.
