upick-image-9469182It’s almost blueberry season in Florida and some farmers are focusing on organic blueberries. Clermont-based Uncle Matt’s Organic has been producing organic fruits and juices since the late 1990s. With the growth of the blueberry industry in Florida over the past decade, Uncle Matt’s added organic blueberries to the list in 2010.  He said in a recent article, that he and his team were especially draw to the blueberry because of their many natural health benefits. Even non-organically grown benefits offer these benefits. Organically grown blueberries are even healthier because they are grown without the use of any pesticides, herbicides or conventional fertilizers.

Currently, Uncle Matt’s relies on eight local growers who grow the berries organically. The added promotions and publicity blueberries have seen over this decade has significantly increased demand. Uncle Matt’s also supplies his blueberries to various retailers up and down the U.S. east coast.  Look for them especially in Publix and Whole Foods stores.

Uncle Matt’s is in its fourth season of selling organically grown blueberries and has mastered the process.  The family behind the business believes there’s nothing better tasting than a fresh blueberry.
