Recipe for Award-Winning Blueberry Cookies

The contest judging was broken into the following: 50% on taste; 25% on appearance; 15% on originality; and 10% on best representation of Centreville, according to a BayTimes article.

Blueberry Cream Cheese Cookie with Lemon Glaze

Cookie Ingredients

  • 4 oz. cream cheese
  • 1 stick real salted butter (1/2 cup)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups blueberries

Lemon Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbsp milk (as needed)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Zest from one whole lemon

Cookie Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Lightly spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray.
  3. In a large bowl cream together butter and cream cheese until smooth.
  4. Add sugar.
  5. Add in egg and vanilla and beat together until mixed.
  6. In another medium bowl combine flour, baking soda and baking powder.
  7. Mix dry ingredients into wet.
  8. Gently fold in blueberries, taking care not to smash the berries.
  9. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto cookie sheet.
  10. Bake 10-12 minutes. Do not over cook.
  11. Let cool on wire rack.

Glaze Directions

  1. To make glaze: whisk together powdered sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and lemon zest.
  2. Add milk as needed. Do not make too thin.
  3. Drizzle on top of cooled cookies.
