Blues-B-Gone Blueberry Smoothies!

As the summer winds down and schools prepare to open, what could be more perfect to erase those end-of-summer blues than delicious ice-cold blueberry smoothies on a hot August day? Blueberry Smoothies are quick and easy to make, full of everything that is good for our bodies, and they are an extremely delicious and satisfying way to cool off from the summer heat. If you are new to smoothies, try one (or all!) of the unique blueberry smoothie recipes listed below. You might even find yourself replacing a meal with one of these nutrition-packed, purple, icy delights!

Banana Caramel Blueberry Smoothie

Ingredients: 2 bananas, chopped and frozen 1/4 cup blueberries, frozen 1/4 cup caramel sauce (like the type used on ice cream)

1 1/2 cups milk

Directions: Add all ingredients to the blender and pulse. Add milk as desired for thickness of your choice. Serve in tall glasses and drink immediately.

Serves 2

Blueberry and Spice Smoothie

Ingredients: 1/4 cup ice cubes, or as desired 1 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt 1 cup low-fat milk 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, or to taste 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon white sugar, or to taste

Directions: Blend ice in a blender until crumbly Add yogurt, milk, blueberries, and cinnamon. Blend until smooth.

Taste smoothie and add desired amount of sugar; blend.

Blueberry, Banana, and Peanut Butter Smoothie

Ingredients: 1 tablespoon flax seed meal or wheat germ 1 banana 1/2 cup frozen blueberries 1 tablespoon peanut butter 1 teaspoon honey 1/2 cup plain yogurt

1 cup milk

Directions: Grind flax seed meal or wheat germ into blender Place the banana, blueberries, peanut butter, honey, yogurt, and milk into the blender. Cover, and puree until smooth.

Pour into glasses to serve.

Avocado Blueberry Smoothie

Ingredients: 1 cup frozen blueberries 1 (6 ounce) container plain Greek-style yogurt 1/2 cup almond milk 1/2 cup water

1/4 avocado – peeled, pitted, and diced

Directions:
Blend blueberries, yogurt, almond milk, water, and avocado in a blender until smooth.
