Classic Summer Cocktails Featuring a Blueberry Twist

These cocktails are a slice of cold refreshment on a hot summer’s day, and each recipe’s blueberry twist creates the perfect zing of tartness. Try one at your next summer soiree!

Blueberry Kombucha Sangria

This sangria is so easy and flavorful, it’ll become your go-to summer drink! Kombucha is a sweet, lightly fermented green or black tea with ancient roots that has become a popular beverage due to its touted health benefits. You can find it in most grocery stores.

Ingredients                                                                                                                                         

  • 1 bottle Pinot Grigio (or white grape juice)
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
  • 1 lemon sliced
  • 1 bottle of lemon-ginger kombucha

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, mix wine (or white grape juice), blueberries and lemon
  2. Refrigerate at least 2 hours
  3. Pour over ice and top with two tablespoons of kombucha

Number of servings (yield): 6 Cocktails

Blueberry Mojito

The tartness of blueberries goes well with this sweet, minty summer drink.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 4 tablespoons fresh or frozen blueberries, divided
  • ½ to ¾ cup lemonade
  • Splash of soda
  • 1 ounce light rum
  • ½ ounce dark rum
  • Mint sprig for garnish
  • Lime slice for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a tall 16-ounce glass, add mint leaves, lime juice and sugar
  2. Mash the ingredients with the back of a spoon or a “muddler” until fragrant
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of the blueberries and mash until juicy
  4. Fill the glass three-quarters with ice
  5. Add lemonade until the glass is two-thirds full
  6. Add splash of soda, light rum and remaining blueberries, stir
  7. Slowly pour dark rum into the drink so it floats on top
  8. Garnish with a sprig of mint and slice of lime
  9. Serve immediately

Blueberry Margarita

This classic cocktail gets another layer of tartness with a blueberry twist.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces blueberry puree
  • 2 ounces tequila
  • 1.5 ounces orange liqueur
  • 1.5 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Coarse salt for glass rim
  • Fresh blueberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. In cocktail shaker, combine blueberry puree, tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, sugar and ice
  2. Shake thoroughly
  3. Run a cut lime along the serving glass rim
  4. Place glass rim in salt
  5. Pour shaker contents into glass
  6. Garnish with fresh blueberries
  7. Serve immediately

Number of servings (yield): 1 margarita (7.5 oz.)

A daiquiri is a summer favorite, and you’ll be blown away by one made of blueberries.

Ingredients

  • 1-½ tablespoons lime juice
  • ½ cup frozen or fresh blueberries
  • 1-½ ounces light rum
  • 1 cup crushed ice

Instructions

  1. In an electric blender place lime juice, blueberries and rum
  2. Blend until smooth
  3. Add ice and blend until slushy
  4. Garnish with blueberries skewered on picks circled with a strip of lime peel, if desired
