About Blueberry Mojito Cocktail

Blueberry Mojito (pronounced Muh-hee-toh) is a simple and refreshing cocktail drink that will surely steal the limelight at your drinks table.

This fruity take on a classic mojito recipe, a traditional Cuban drink, is made using fresh blueberries or frozen blueberries, mint leaves, lime juice, white rum, and club soda. The best part is that you can make it virgin (non-alcoholic) too.

Blueberry Mojito might sound summery but you can make it around the year using frozen blueberries. Just thaw a bag and use them to make this minty and refreshing cocktail for your back yard parties, get-togethers, and baby shower party, or just enjoy it on a lazy day by the pool.

One serving of blueberry mojito is about 209 Kcal, not bad to sip on over the weekend, right :).

My recipe sometimes turns out blue and sometimes purple, depending on the color of the blueberries. But whatever the color is, the taste is always delicious.

This blueberry mojito recipe can be easily doubled or tripled or can be made for a crowd in a pitcher.

Ingredients

Blueberry mojito ingredients

Blueberries – Use fresh or frozen blueberries. If using fresh, then use them directly and if using frozen, thaw them and then use them to make this refreshing drink.

Try to buy the blueberries from a farmers market for the best taste.

Club Soda – Add club soda (soda water) for that fizz. You can replace it with sparkling water as well.

White Rum – Mojitos are traditionally made using white rum but vodka and tequila will also work fine.

Other Ingredients – Other than the above-mentioned ingredients, you will also need granulated sugar, fresh mint leaves, freshly squeezed lime juice, and ice cubes to make this blueberry cocktail.

Note – This beverage tastes great with blueberries but you can use other berries like raspberries, blackberries, or strawberries. Kiwi fruit is also a great replacement for blueberries. Other herbs like fresh basil or rosemary can be used in place of mint.

How To Make Blueberry Mojito

Add ¼ cup of blueberries to a tall highball glass or a lowball serving glass.

Blueberries added to a glass.

Muddle them using a cocktail muddler or the back of a wooden spoon until nicely crushed.

Tip – If you don’t like the skin coming in your mouth, you can also puree the berries in a blender. Pass the puree through a strainer and add the puree to the serving glass.

Now a dd 10-12 fresh mint leaves to the glass and crush some more using the muddler. Muddling the mint leaves will help release their flavor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to make a blueberry mojito cocktail recipe for a crowd?

Mojito pitchers are lifesavers if you’re throwing a party. To make the pitcher, scale the recipe as required. Muddle the blueberries, mint leaves, sugar, and lime juice in a pitcher. You can also muddle them in a food processor. If you plan on serving it right away, then stir in the rum, add ice cubes and top with club soda and serve immediately.
If you plan to serve it later, then refrigerate the pitcher until the serving time (max 2 hours) Add the rum, ice cubes, and club soda when ready to serve.

Which rum is best to make it?

Traditionally, white rum is used to make Mojito. Use any good quality and reasonably priced white rum to make this drink. I mostly use Bacardi Carta Blanca to make this white rum cocktail but Appleton or Havana Club Añejo Blanco are also great.

Can we use store-bought lime juice?

The flavor of freshly squeezed lime juice is unmatched. So unless there is some real reason for not using it, I do not recommend using store-bought bottled lime juice.

Why is my Mojito bitter?

If the muddled mint is kept for too long, it turns bitter making the cocktail bitter too.
