Florida Blueberry Wine for Any Palate

Have you ever visited a local blueberry u-pick during Florida’s harvest season?  Have you ever tried blueberry wine?  Although the Florida blueberry season is only a short six-week period from March through early May, the little blue dynamos abound across the state during this period, and there are many local farms that– in addition to their commercial harvest– open up their farms to the public for recreation and entertainment outdoors.

In some cases, local farms have found a niche market to serve consumers directly.  One such operation can be found at the heart of Central Florida, called True Blue Winery.  Located in Davenport, the farm offers so much more than blueberries.  You might have guessed already (after all, it’s in their name) that they make delicious blueberry wines.  As a blueberry farm, they also offer u-pick during harvest, but that’s not all.  Visitors can relax at the bistro and enjoy brick oven pizza as well as other homemade specialties.

They are having their yearly reopening on October 12. Since they have been closed since June, the local regulars are dying to get back in for some tasty wine and food, so if you’re in the area, make sure to stop by.  Here’s some more goodies you can expect, should you decide to make a trip to this Florida blueberry farm:

U-pick season & Festival

True Blue Winery also offers a u-pick season every year open to the public along with a fall and spring festival.  The u-pick season is only available in the spring, coinciding with harvest, so make sure to visit their website for regular updates.

Blueberry Wines

True Blue Winery offers several types of blueberry wine for almost any palate. Whether you like sweet or dry wine, they have something for everyone. They offer the following blueberry wines:

  • Semi Dry Blueberry: recommended for pairings with cheese and fruit.

  • Semi Sweet Blueberry: recommended for pairings with cheese and meats.

  • Sweet Blueberry: recommended for pairings with dessert.

As a Florida winery, it comes as no surprise that they also offer muscadine, citrus, and peach wines.  But of course, we recommend the blueberry varieties!

If you’re ever in the area, post a picture to our Facebook page, and let us know what you thought of this unique Florida farm experience.
